Mumbai: At least eight people have been confirmed dead, and several others injured following a blast at an ordnance factory in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district on Friday morning. The explosion occurred around 10 am at the factory’s RK Branch section, causing significant damage, including the collapse of the building’s roof.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that 13 to 14 workers were present in the building at the time of the blast. Five workers have been successfully rescued from the debris, with rescue operations continuing as authorities work to save any others trapped under the rubble.
Fadnavis shared an update on social media, stating, “There is news of an incident where 13-14 workers are trapped due to a roof collapse caused by an explosion at the ordnance factory in Bhandara. Five workers have been safely rescued.” He assured that efforts to locate and assist the remaining trapped individuals are ongoing.
Union Home Minister Nitin Gadkari also expressed his condolences, writing on X, “It is unfortunate that a worker died and several others were trapped after a roof collapsed due to an explosion at an ordnance factory in Bhandara district. My condolences to the deceased worker. My condolences are with his family. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
