Jamshedpur: The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) Jamshedpur Chapter, in collaboration with Tata Steel Ltd., CSIR-NML, and NIT Jamshedpur, organized the International Conference on Corrosion and Coatings (i3C-2025) on February 6-7, 2025, at Hotel Vivanta. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director of CSIR-NML, along with dignitaries including Mr. A.K. Manohar, Executive Director of NTPC, and Dr. Ashok Kumar, Chairman of IIM Jamshedpur Chapter.
The event featured four plenary lectures, 15 keynote speeches, and 40 contributory lectures. Over 100 delegates from renowned institutions like IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, and international bodies such as RMIT University, Australia, and COMSOL-Switzerland participated, both in-person and virtually.
Dr. Ghosh Chowdhury highlighted the significant economic loss due to corrosion, stressing the need for collective action to protect steel structures. Guest of Honour Mr. A.K. Manohar discussed the challenges of corrosion in power plants and the importance of protective coatings. Dr. Tapan Rout, Convenor of i3C-2025, emphasized the unique approach of this conference in addressing new technologies and solutions for corrosion and coatings.
The conference also attracted key sponsors including Tata Steel, Electrotherm, and Henkel, and focused on advancements in coatings, corrosion monitoring, failure analysis, and prevention across industries like oil & gas, chemical, and power plants.
