New Delhi: A report from the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has revealed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s liquor policy caused a staggering loss of over Rs 2,000 crore to the Delhi government’s exchequer. According to the CAG’s findings, the cumulative losses incurred by the Delhi government due to the 2021-2022 excise policy amount to more than Rs 2,000 crore.
The audit uncovered several discrepancies in the implementation of the AAP government’s liquor policy, which governed the supply of alcohol within the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The CAG report, tabled in the Delhi Assembly yesterday by the BJP government led by Rekha Gupta, highlights concerns over the financial management of the policy.
The controversial excise policy, which has since been scrapped, was a major topic during the recently concluded Delhi Assembly elections. Allegations of corruption and irregularities surrounding the policy were central to the political debate.
This report on the Delhi Excise Policy is part of a broader set of 14 pending CAG reports that assess the performance of the previous AAP government in various sectors.
