Chandan Studio Brings Shantiniketan’s Dol Utsav to Dhanbad with a Vibrant Celebration

Dhanbad: Chandan Studio celebrated the seventh edition of its annual Dol Utsav at Rajendra Sarovar Park, Bekar Bandh, drawing inspiration from the iconic Holi festivities at Shantiniketan, West Bengal.

The event, which marks the onset of spring, aimed to bring the traditional Bengali Dol Utsav to the heart of Dhanbad, blending rich cultural performances with the joyous spirit of Holi.

The Dol Utsav, or Basanti Holi, is deeply rooted in Bengali heritage and is famously celebrated at Visva-Bharati University, founded by Rabindranath Tagore. Known for its musical performances, Rabindra Sangeet, and colourful processions, the festival symbolizes love and the vibrant hues of life.

This year’s celebration was filmed for a special video, set to be released on Chandan Studio’s social media platforms, including Facebook and YouTube.

The event saw the presence of several distinguished personalities, including former Dhanbad Mayor Chandrashekhar Agarwal and his wife Veena Agarwal, Tapti Chakraborty from BBMKU’s Art and Culture Department, Dr. Sarita Sinha, Principal of Delhi Public School, and other key figures from the local community. Guests were warmly welcomed by children with flowers and herbal gulal, setting the tone for a colourful and spirited celebration.

A highlight of the day was the lively procession led by Kumkum Banerjee and her team, who performed the iconic Rabindra Sangeet “Ore Grihobasi,” as they paraded around the park. The event attracted around 600 participants, with women and children dressed in yellow sarees, playing Holi with marigold and palash flowers and herbal gulal.

In addition to the festive atmosphere, the Dol Utsav featured captivating cultural performances. Local dance academies presented Rabindra Nritya, capturing the essence of spring through dance. Schools and cultural organizations, including Sanskritik Shikshan Kendra, Guru Sur Nritya Sangam, and Saswati Sen Dance Academy, contributed to the vibrant showcase.

A lucky draw added a fun element to the celebrations, with several winners receiving gifts from the esteemed guests.

The event culminated in a grand finale, where all participants, including guests, joined together in a collective dance to the iconic Rabindra Sangeet “Rangiye Diye Jao,” led by Kushan Sengupta.

The success of the Dol Utsav was attributed to the dedicated efforts of Program Coordinators Aarti Saw, Jhoom, Sampa Sarkar, Kakuli, Sanjay Sengupta, and others, alongside the Chandan Studio production team, including Rajkumar, Manoj, Amit, and Vinod, who ensured the event ran smoothly and memorably.
