SpaceX delays ISS flight, stranded astronauts’ return postponed

RNS: SpaceX has announced a delay to its scheduled flight to the International Space Station (ISS) due to a last-minute technical issue with the rocket’s launch pad.

The mission, which was set to transport four replacement astronauts to the ISS, was also expected to facilitate the long-overdue return of U.S. astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams. The pair had originally planned for an eight-day stay aboard the ISS, but their return has been delayed for nine months due to complications with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft.

Just hours before the scheduled launch, concerns arose over a critical hydraulic system on the rocket, prompting SpaceX officials to cancel the mission during the countdown. A new launch date has not yet been confirmed.

Despite the setback, NASA has reassured the public that both astronauts are safe. While awaiting their return, Wilmore and Williams have continued to work on ongoing research and maintenance projects alongside the station’s current crew.
