RNS: In a candid conversation with US-based podcaster and computer scientist Lex Fridman, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed disappointment over Pakistan’s repeated rejection of peace efforts, stating that every attempt to foster harmony with Pakistan had been met with hostility and betrayal.
Recalling a key moment from 2014, Modi revealed that he had invited then-Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to his swearing-in ceremony, hoping that the gesture would signal a new beginning for bilateral relations. However, he noted that despite such overtures, Pakistan’s actions have undermined peace-building efforts.
The Prime Minister also highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing role in fostering terrorism, reiterating that the global community no longer questions where the roots of terror lie. According to Modi, time and again, Pakistan has emerged as the epicenter of terrorism, causing immense suffering not only to India but to the world at large.
Emphasizing India’s unwavering commitment to peace, Modi stated that the country is not neutral in its stance but stands firm in its advocacy for harmony. He added that when India speaks of peace, the world listens, given the nation’s rich history, being the land of Gautam Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi, both of whom championed peace and nonviolence.
Modi concluded by reiterating India’s dedication to promoting peace and harmony globally, stressing that the pursuit of peace remains a cornerstone of India’s foreign policy.
