University of Leeds Opens Applications for MSc in Sustainable Agriculture & Food Production for Indian Students

UK: The University of Leeds has announced that it is now accepting applications for its newly introduced MSc in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Production.

This innovative program, designed for Indian students, aims to prepare future leaders with the skills necessary to address global challenges in food security and sustainable farming.

Launched on March 21, 2025, the course focuses on environmental sustainability, cutting-edge research, and collaboration with industry experts. It offers students a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in the agricultural sector.

The program responds to the growing importance of sustainable agriculture, driven by key global challenges such as a rising population, increasing environmental pressures, and climate change.

It is a multidisciplinary course, drawing on the University of Leeds’ extensive research expertise in sustainable agriculture and food production. The course is supported by the university’s Global Food and Environment Institute, offering students a deep understanding of the complex issues facing agriculture and food systems worldwide.

A highlight of the program is the access students will have to the University of Leeds’ 300-acre Research Farm, where they can gain practical experience across diverse agricultural landscapes. The farm includes areas for arable crops, agroforestry, and sheep grazing, allowing students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting. This hands-on experience will enhance their learning as they explore sustainable farming practices, livestock management, and environmental monitoring.

Students will also engage in advanced research topics, including crop biotechnology, genome engineering, sustainable livestock production, and environmental management. The program is designed to equip graduates with the skills needed for careers in consulting, policy-making, scientific monitoring, biotechnology, and sustainability roles. Graduates will be well-prepared for further academic research, including PhD opportunities.

To apply, Indian students should hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2:1 honours or its equivalent in relevant fields such as biology, environmental science, agriculture, or food science. The program will begin in September 2025, and applications are due by July 31, 2025. It will run for 12 months, with tuition fees set at £31,250 (approximately INR 33,98,975).

The University is offering a £6,000 International Masters Regional Scholarship to all Indian students applying for the program.
