Dhanbad: IIT-ISM Dhanbad has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a prestigious Centenary Lecture Series, titled Dr. Abanish Chandra and Binapani Sinha Memorial Lectures on Humanities, Science, and Technology. The MoU was signed at the institute’s administrative building between Dr. Mihir Kumar Sinha, an alumnus from the 1966 batch of Petroleum Engineering, and the IIT-ISM Alumni Association of North America (ISMAANA).

The signing ceremony was attended by several prominent figures, including Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT-ISM, Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Prof. R.M. Bhattacharjee, and other key faculty and administrative staff. Dr. Sinha has pledged a generous contribution of USD 125,000 (approximately Rs 1 crore) to fund the lecture series, which will honor the memory of his late parents, Dr. Abanish Chandra Sinha and Mrs. Binapani Sinha.

The lecture series, aimed at promoting interdisciplinary learning and engagement with renowned scholars, will feature annual keynote addresses by Nobel Laureates or other distinguished speakers.

IIT-ISM Dhanbad will oversee the implementation and management of the series, including the investment of the endowed funds, with ISMAANA not involved in the management of funds after their transfer.

The initiative is designed to offer students, faculty, and staff the chance to engage with thought leaders across various fields, enriching their educational experience and preparing them for professional success. Prof. Sukumar Mishra expressed gratitude for Dr. Sinha’s contribution and highlighted the importance of the lecture series in fostering intellectual growth at IIT-ISM. The institute aims to create an impactful platform that supports academic excellence and holistic development.
