‘Operation Brahma’: India Sends First Consignment of Humanitarian Aid to Myanmar

 

New Delhi: India has dispatched the first tranche of 15 tonnes of essential humanitarian aid to Myanmar as part of Operation Brahma, its relief effort for the country’s earthquake-stricken regions. The aid arrived in Yangon on Saturday, delivered by an Indian Air Force C-130J aircraft.

The consignment includes a range of vital relief materials, including tents, blankets, sleeping bags, food packets, hygiene kits, generators, and essential medicines. In addition to these, crucial medical supplies such as paracetamol, antibiotics, syringes, gloves, and bandages are also part of the shipment to support those affected by the earthquake.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar confirmed the relief operation, stating in a social media post that a search and rescue team, along with medical personnel, is accompanying the flight. He assured that India will continue to monitor the situation closely and additional aid will follow.

In a separate statement, the Indian Embassy in Myanmar confirmed that it is working closely with Myanmar authorities to expedite the delivery of the relief supplies. The embassy is also maintaining regular contact with the Indian community in Myanmar, providing updates and support. This humanitarian assistance is part of India’s ongoing efforts to provide support to its neighbors in times of crisis.
