Sukma: A fierce encounter between security forces and Naxalites has been underway since Saturday morning on the border of Sukma and Dantewada districts in Chhattisgarh.
As of now, 16 Naxalites have been confirmed dead, and two soldiers have been injured during the operation.
The operation, involving the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and CRPF personnel, is focused on the Upampalli area under the jurisdiction of the Keralapal police station. According to DIG Kamalochan Kashyap, the bodies of 16 Naxalites have been recovered from the site.
Authorities have found a significant cache of weapons, indicating that the slain Naxalites included high-ranking cadres within the group.
The encounter is still ongoing, and the security forces have successfully surrounded the Naxalites. Once the operation concludes, a thorough search will be conducted to assess further casualties among the Naxalites. Weapons recovered so far include automatic rifles such as INSAS and SLR, which are typically used by larger militant groups.
DIG Kashyap also noted that the death toll among the Naxalites may rise as the search operation continues.
