Cuttack: At least one person was killed, and seven others were injured when 11 coaches of the Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express derailed near Nergundi station in Cuttack district on Sunday. Railway and police officials quickly arrived at the scene following the incident.
Subash Chandra Ray, administrative officer at SCB Medical College and Hospital, confirmed one death and multiple injuries, with three medical teams deployed to treat the wounded. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed.
East Coast Railway announced that a detailed inquiry, led by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), will be conducted to determine the cause of the derailment. Restoration efforts are ongoing, and normalcy on the affected routes is being prioritized.
