Ranchi: A groundbreaking chapter in Indian volleyball began today as the Mongia National Volleyball Academy in Giridih, Jharkhand, hosted the country’s first-ever selection test featuring the innovative “Volleyball Affinity Index” (VAI). The pioneering event, which commenced on Tuesday, marks a significant step forward for the sport in India.
Organized by leading volleyball experts and coaches, the trial brings together 150 promising young athletes from across the nation. Participants are undergoing an extensive evaluation process, including physical fitness, motor skills, aptitude, and technical proficiency tests, designed to identify the next generation of volleyball stars.
In a historic first, the selection test has drawn an unprecedented number of towering teenage talents, with over 100 players standing between 6’3″ and 6’9″ competing under one roof. This gathering of height and skill is being hailed as a landmark moment for Indian volleyball, signaling a bright future for the sport.
Since its inception in 2022, the Mongia National Volleyball Academy has emerged as a powerhouse in grassroots sports development. Its athletes have already made their mark, representing schools and universities, and even shining at the Senior National Volleyball Competition earlier this year. The academy’s players also dominated the North East Games 2024 and various All India Invitational Tournaments, cementing its reputation as a breeding ground for talent.
Due to the tiring efforts of the academy lead by M/s Mongia Steel Ltd. under the dynamic leadership of it’s CEO cum Chairman, Dr. Gunwant Singh Mongia, it has also been honoured with the highest sports award of Jharkhand, the prestigious “Dr. Jaipal Singh Munda Sports Award 2023” for its contributions to youth sports.
Catering to players aged 12 to 19, the academy provides an all-encompassing support system, offering free accommodation, nutritious meals, education, healthcare, and access to top-tier training facilities. Under the guidance of renowned national and international coaches, athletes receive both hands-on and theoretical training, preparing them for success on and off the court.
This selection test, with its cutting-edge VAI metric and focus on holistic development, underscores Mongia National Volleyball Academy’s commitment to transforming Indian volleyball into a global contender.
