SC to Consider Urgent Hearing on Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 Petitions

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has agreed to consider an urgent hearing for petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.

The bench, consisting of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar, and Justice KV Viswanathan, took into account the submissions made by senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind.

Sibal highlighted that multiple petitions on the matter were pending and required immediate attention.

Alongside Sibal, senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi and lawyer Nizam Pasha also requested the urgent listing of other related petitions.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which was previously passed by Parliament after intense debates, has received the assent of President Droupadi Murmu.
