New Delhi: Following the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Byasaran Valley on April 22, which claimed 26 lives, India has launched a series of sweeping diplomatic and security measures in retaliation. A high-level Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 23 led to historic decisions targeting Pakistan.
The Ministry of External Affairs announced the termination of the 1960 Indus Water Treaty, a cornerstone agreement between India and Pakistan on water sharing. In addition, visas of all Pakistani citizens in India have been cancelled, and they’ve been directed to exit the country within 48 hours.
The government has also decided to shut down the Pakistani High Commission in Delhi and all its associated offices across India. All Pakistani diplomats have been instructed to leave the country within the same timeframe. Furthermore, the Attari border checkpost, a key link for trade and travel, has been indefinitely closed.
Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh issued strong warnings, asserting that “those behind the scenes will not be spared.” This follows the elimination of two terrorists near the LoC in Uri and the interrogation of over 1,500 suspects in Jammu and Kashmir.
