#Modi thanks Rishi Sunak for his ‘admirable leadership
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his warm congratulations to Keir Starmer on his triumph in the UK general elections, marking a decisive shift in the country’s political landscape.
The Labour Party’s victory under Starmer’s leadership has brought an end to the Conservative Party’s 14-year rule, heralding a new era in British politics.
In his message, PM Modi expressed eagerness for a productive collaboration with the new UK Prime Minister, highlighting their shared commitment to strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UK across all sectors. “Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to @Keir_Starmer on the remarkable victory in the UK general elections. I look forward to our positive and constructive collaboration to further strengthen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in all areas, fostering mutual growth and prosperity,” Prime Minister Modi stated.
Acknowledging the outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s tenure, PM Modi also praised his leadership and contributions towards enhancing bilateral relations between India and the UK.
“Thank you @RishiSunak for your admirable leadership of the UK, and your active contribution to deepen the ties between India and the UK during your term in office. Best wishes to you and your family for the future,” PM Modi added.
Keir Starmer, who led the Labour Party to secure over 412 seats in the British House of Commons, outlined his vision for rebuilding Britain and emphasized a commitment to serving the country above partisan interests.
“Country first, party second. That’s how we will serve,” Starmer asserted in his inaugural address as UK Prime Minister.
The election result marks a significant comeback for the Labour Party under Starmer’s leadership, just four years after he assumed the helm following the party’s disappointing performance in the 2019 elections.
In contrast, Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party secured 121 seats in the 650-member house, reflecting a decisive voter mandate for change.
The transition of power from Sunak to Starmer signals a new phase in UK politics, with expectations high for the implementation of Labour’s agenda and policies under the new leadership.
