Ranchi: Bhagwan Mahaveer Medica Hospital in Ranchi has undertaken a groundbreaking initiative under the “Masoom Dhadkan” program, setting a new benchmark in the world of private hospitals. This program focuses on non-surgical treatments for patients suffering from heart defects (ASO, VSD, PDA), using devices to close the holes in their hearts.
Cardiologist Dr. Dhananjay Kumar, the mastermind behind the program, shared the story of a 5-year-old child with a heart defect who was unable to travel out of state for treatment. Recognizing the need for local solutions, Dr. Dhananjay, supported by Puranmal Jain, President of Medica Management Jain Samaj, developed the initiative to prevent the migration of heart patients from the state.
Speaking to the media persons, Dr. Dhananjay reported the successful closure of heart defects in patients ranging from 3 to 36 years old. The most challenging case was a 20-year-old girl with a 44 mm hole, successfully closed with a 46 mm device.
Medica’s Medical Director, Dr. Vijay Kumar Mishra, highlighted the meticulous planning of the three-day program, including food and accommodation for patients and their families at Jain Samaj Bhawan. Dr. Vijay expressed pride in Medica being the first private hospital to fulfill its social-moral responsibility in this manner.
Dr. Deepak Kumar mentioned that while the typical cost of this treatment in a private hospital is about 3 lakhs per patient, it was provided free of cost at Medica. Dr. Sunil Kumar noted that some patients were not suitable for the device and have been scheduled for surgery. Dr. Rohit Kumar stayed in the Cath Lab for three days, monitoring the patients’ conditions.
Jain Samaj representatives Dr. VK Jain and Padma Kumar Jain emphasized their commitment to continuing such initiatives and urged the Jharkhand government to utilize local facilities for treating heart patients. The success of the 13 device closures at Medica Ranchi underscores the hospital’s capability.
Dr. Anil Singhi, leading the pediatric cardiology program at Medica Kolkata, expressed support for the initiative and pledged to develop comprehensive pediatric cardiology at Medica Ranchi. The efforts of Dr. Amit Prakash Chandra, Dr. Lata Bhattacharya, Dr. Alka, and the Critical Care team were commendable in the success of Masoom Dhadkan. Hospital Director Abid Tauqeer, DGM Dr. Deepak Mallick, and Brand-Media Head Bharti Ojha attended the press conference.
