Dhanbad: Renowned international political, economic, and foreign policy expert Dr. Suvrokamal Dutta captivated the audience at IIT-ISM this evening with his lecture on the role of technology and skills in achieving India’s Vision 2047 for a developed nation, known as Mission Viksit Bharat@2047, and the associated challenges.
Speaking at the Penman Auditorium, Dr. Dutta, a notable figure from the Vajpayee Government and a distinguished scholar in Economic History of India with a focus on Asia Pacific, provided an extensive analysis of India’s pre-partition history and its expansive cultural influence beyond current geographical and political boundaries.
Addressing an audience comprising faculty, staff, and students led by Professor Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT-ISM, Dr. Dutta emphasized the profound cultural impact of India across various regions. “India’s cultural reach was so significant that its influence can still be seen in Europe, Southeast Asia, and beyond,” he remarked.
Dr. Dutta illustrated this influence with examples such as the grand Navratri festival celebrated in Bangkok, where participants observe a nine-day fast and partake in elaborate processions. “During Dashmi, the streets of Bangkok witness a frenzy of devotees seeking the blessings of Goddess Durga, with large processions and rituals creating a vibrant atmosphere,” he explained.
In his lecture, Dr. Dutta also explored the historical connections between India and Myanmar, noting that the name ‘Burma’ is derived from ‘Bramha,’ an ancient reference to India. He also highlighted the cultural ties between India and Armenia, the world’s first Christian nation, demonstrating the far-reaching impact of Indian culture.
The event also included a poignant video presentation by the National School of Drama, commemorating Partition Horrors Remembrance Day observed annually on August 14, setting a reflective tone for Dr. Dutta’s lecture.
Dr. Dutta’s insights provided a comprehensive look at how historical and cultural legacies continue to shape India’s role in the global landscape as the nation strides towards its 2047 vision.
