New Delhi: Indian President Droupadi Murmu has been honored with the Grand-Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the highest civilian distinction awarded by the Timorese government.
The prestigious accolade was bestowed upon her by Timor-Leste’s President, José Ramos-Horta, in recognition of her extensive contributions to public service, including her work in education, social welfare, and the empowerment of women.
The official X page of the President of India shared images from the ceremony, highlighting the significance of the award. President Murmu expressed that the honor symbolizes the deep and enduring friendship between India and Timor-Leste.
Following her visit to Timor-Leste, President Murmu concluded a tour that also included Fiji and New Zealand. She has since returned to New Delhi. The official X page of the President confirmed her arrival in the capital after completing her international engagements.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated President Murmu on the award, stating, “It is a proud moment for us to see Rashtrapati Ji being honored with the Grand-Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the nation’s highest civilian award.” Modi highlighted that the award reflects the strong and respectful relationship between the two nations and acknowledges President Murmu’s significant contributions to public life.
