Urdu Teachers’ Union Scores Victory: Separate Holiday Schedules to Begin in 2025

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Council of Educational Research and Training (JCERT) has announced that starting in 2025, primary schools will receive distinct holiday schedules tailored separately for Urdu and general schools. This decision comes after the Jharkhand State Urdu Teachers’ Sangh raised concerns regarding discrepancies in the current holiday arrangements.

According to a letter from MK Singh, Deputy Director at DIET Ranchi, the uniform holiday schedule for 2024 grants both Urdu and general schools 55 days off, with an additional five days available upon district-level approval for local needs. The new policy seeks to address issues pointed out by the Urdu Teachers’ Sangh, which highlighted that the existing holiday table failed to reflect the unique requirements of Urdu-medium institutions.

Amin Ahmed, Central General Secretary of the Jharkhand State Urdu Teachers’ Sangh, praised the decision as a step forward but expressed frustration over the delay. The Union had previously criticized the 2024 holiday schedule for inaccuracies, including inconsistencies in weekly holidays and a reduction in days off for Urdu schools. Ahmed, along with spokesperson Shahzad Anwar, has urged the department to correct these errors and release updated holiday schedules for the forthcoming academic year.
