Rhythms of Tradition: Kathak Dance Workshop Kicks Off at Chinmaya Vidyalaya

Bokaro: A three-day dance workshop focused on the Indian classical dance form Kathak was inaugurated at the Tapovan auditorium of Chinmaya Vidyalaya. The event was officially opened by the school principal, Suraj Sharma, along with dance experts Nirmalya Sharma, Ranjita Sharma, and Sonali Gupta, who lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the occasion. Participants were welcomed with a traditional welcome song.

Principal Suraj Sharma emphasized that the workshop aims to enhance children’s interest, knowledge, and curiosity about Kathak, a dance style rich in tradition passed down through generations. Over 85 enthusiastic children participated in the workshop, eager to learn and engage with the art form.

Kathak Guru Nirmalya Sharma, a renowned dancer with extensive experience in both national and international performances, highlighted the historical significance of Kathak. He explained that this centuries-old dance style not only showcases Indian culture but also instills discipline in its practitioners. During the workshop, he shared insights into the tradition, history, and unique qualities of Kathak, encouraging the children to dance regularly for mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

“Dancing daily strengthens the mind, body, and emotions,” he said. “It offers a powerful means of expressing our feelings and creates an emotional connection between the dancer and the audience. Dance is also a vital form of meditation, helping us focus our mind, body, and soul.”

The workshop coordinator, Sonali Gupta, along with the other experts, facilitated an enriching experience for the young participants, who engaged with the dance form with great enthusiasm. The initiative aims to foster a deeper appreciation for Indian classical dance among the students.
