Ranchi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) held a crucial meeting today to assess the readiness for the upcoming assembly elections in Jharkhand, emphasizing a stringent stance against the use of money power during the electoral process.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, accompanied by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. SS Sandhu, conducted the review in Ranchi, where they met with political parties, security forces, and other stakeholders. The ECI made it clear that it will maintain a “zero tolerance” policy towards any form of electoral inducement.
In a press conference following the meetings, CEC Kumar stated that all concerned agencies have been instructed to ensure that the elections remain inducement-free. The Commission called for a coordinated effort among enforcement agencies to combat the flow of illicit liquor, cash, and drugs into the state. Additionally, they were tasked with updating and synchronizing their route maps to enhance monitoring efforts.
Kumar also stressed the importance of balancing security measures with public convenience, urging officials to avoid unnecessary harassment during checks. The Commission highlighted the need for heightened vigilance along Jharkhand’s borders with West Bengal, Odisha, and Bihar, where the risk of illegal activities is particularly pronounced.
As the assembly elections approach, the Election Commission remains committed to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process in the state.
