Make in India Initiative Marks 10 Years of Transformative Growth

New Delhi: The Government’s flagship initiative, Make in India, celebrated its 10th anniversary today, marking a decade of significant advancements in India’s manufacturing sector and economic development.

Launched on September 25, 2014, by the Modi government, Make in India aims to attract investment, promote innovation, and establish the country as a global manufacturing hub. The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of positioning ‘Brand India’ as a benchmark for quality and innovation.

Over the past ten years, Make in India has transformed various sectors, boosting the startup ecosystem and creating millions of jobs. India has emerged as the second-largest mobile manufacturer globally, reducing mobile phone imports by approximately 85 percent. The Production Linked Incentive scheme has facilitated investments exceeding Rs 1.28 lakh crore across diverse industries.

The initiative has also seen the launch of a startup every hour, generating around 1.5 million jobs. India has gained international recognition for its COVID vaccine production, supplying 50 percent of the world’s vaccines. Additionally, the introduction of the indigenous semi-high-speed train, Vande Bharat, has enhanced passenger experience with modern facilities.

In the realm of digital finance, India continues to lead with its Unified Payments Interface (UPI), setting new global benchmarks for real-time transactions. The success of Make in India underscores the country’s growing prominence in global manufacturing and innovation.
