Gaya: A four-day training workshop titled “Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation in Development Programmes” concluded at the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) with a valedictory session. Organised by the Centre for Climate Change and LiFE in collaboration with the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) and the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority (BSDMA), the workshop was supervised by Vice-Chancellor Professor Kameshwar Nath Singh.
The session featured lectures from several experts, including Professor G.K. Panda, who discussed the evolution of disaster management and the importance of infrastructure and early warning systems.
Professor Kaushal Kumar Sharma from Jawaharlal Nehru University highlighted the significance of addressing “invisible disasters” like desertification and air quality, advocating for their integration into rural development policies.
Professor Pradhan Partha Sarthi, Dean at CUSB, presented on climate extremes affecting the Eastern Gangetic Plain, analysing weather patterns and their impacts from 1979 to 2018. Mukund Kumar from BSDMA shared initiatives for public awareness through various media channels, while ADM Pankaj Kumar emphasised the importance of applying research findings to governmental disaster management policies.
The chief guest, Manoj Kumar Singh from KVIC, discussed regional policy needs and the challenges of rural-to-urban migration. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks from course coordinator Dr. Manjit Singh, along with the distribution of certificates to participants and resource persons.
