Washington, DC: President-elect Donald Trump has announced that tech billionaire Elon Musk and Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy will spearhead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The creation of this department is part of Trump’s broader initiative to streamline the federal government, reduce bureaucracy, and eliminate wasteful spending.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Trump hailed Musk as a “great entrepreneur” and described Ramaswamy as an “American patriot.” Together, the two will lead efforts to overhaul federal agencies, remove unnecessary regulations, and cut waste from government operations.
“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies — all critical elements of the ‘Save America’ movement,” Trump said.
The newly formed Department of Government Efficiency is tasked with enhancing the operational efficiency of federal agencies, reducing wasteful spending, and combating “massive waste and fraud.” Trump expressed confidence that Musk and Ramaswamy would drive significant change in Washington, creating a leaner, more effective government.
“I look forward to Elon and Vivek making changes to the Federal Bureaucracy with an eye on efficiency, and, at the same time, improving the lives of all Americans,” Trump added. “Their work will be essential to the future of our nation and will conclude on July 4, 2026.”
Musk, a long-time supporter of Trump, took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to respond to his appointment. In a post, he promised maximum transparency from the new department:
“All actions of the Department of Government Efficiency will be posted online for maximum transparency,” Musk wrote. “If the public thinks we are cutting something important or not cutting something wasteful, just let us know!”
Musk’s appointment is seen as part of his continued involvement in political and policy matters. The tech mogul has previously supported Trump’s policies and was a vocal ally during the 2024 Republican campaign.
Vivek Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur and vocal critic of government overreach, will bring his experience in business management and deregulation to the department. Ramaswamy, a graduate of Harvard University and Yale Law School, has made a name for himself as a prominent Republican figure and outspoken proponent of free-market solutions. At 38, Ramaswamy is a multimillionaire and former executive in the biotech industry. He is known for his strong support of Trump and his advocacy for reducing government interference in the private sector.
As part of Trump’s vision, the Department of Government Efficiency is expected to play a central role in reshaping how federal agencies operate, cutting waste, and ensuring that government resources are spent more efficiently. The department will focus on streamlining services, eliminating unnecessary regulations, and pushing for greater accountability within the federal bureaucracy.
This latest move is a continuation of Trump’s commitment to his “Save America” agenda, which includes reducing government size and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. With Musk and Ramaswamy at the helm, the new department is poised to be a key player in the administration’s mission to overhaul Washington’s bureaucratic structure.
