Jamshedpur: Dr. Gaurav Kumar Bansal, a distinguished scientist at the CSIR National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) in Jamshedpur, has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Young Engineers Award 2024-25’ by the Institution of Engineers India (IEI), the world’s largest multidisciplinary engineering professional society.
This recognition highlights his outstanding contributions to engineering research, technology development, and technology transfer.
Dr. Bansal, who also serves as an Assistant Professor at AcSIR, was selected for the award from numerous candidates across India. He was presented with the honour during the 37th National Convention of Metallurgical and Materials Engineers, held in Salem on 6 December.
Over the past 12 years, Dr. Bansal has played a pivotal role in over 40 major projects in line with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. His work has made significant strides in metallurgy and has contributed to the nation’s development.
Notably, he led the indigenous development of advanced wear-resistant steel, which has helped reduce imports, and created crash and blast-resistant steels for automotive vehicles, enhancing passenger safety and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions.
Dr. Bansal’s pioneering research has led to 11 patents (6 granted), more than 30 publications in esteemed scientific journals, and numerous accolades. His awards include the AWSAR Award 2019, the S.P. Mehrotra Award 2020, and the B.R. Nijhawan Award in both 2020 and 2021.
The ‘Young Engineers Award’ not only acknowledges Dr. Bansal’s remarkable achievements but also serves as an inspiration for him to continue his groundbreaking work, which promises to have lasting benefits for both the environment and society.
