New Delhi: In a demonstration of solidarity and support, India has dispatched 2,200 metric tonnes of rice to Myanmar as part of its ongoing humanitarian assistance.
This gesture is aligned with India’s ‘Act East’ and ‘Neighbourhood First’ policies, reaffirming its commitment to aiding the people of Myanmar, according to a statement from External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on social media.
Myanmar is currently grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis, particularly in the wake of ongoing conflicts.
The country has become the deadliest in the world for landmine casualties, with 1,052 civilian deaths reported in 2023 alone—surpassing all other nations. Children are disproportionately affected, accounting for over 20 percent of these fatalities.
