ISM Launches Refresher Training Program for Coal India Executives

Dhanbad: The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad (IIT-ISM) launched its interdisciplinary Refresher Training Program for executives of Coal India Limited (CIL) on 16th December 2024. The program, which will be conducted in several batches, kicked off with the first batch running from December 16 to December 30, 2024.

The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Professor Prem Vrat, Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIT-ISM, Professor Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT-ISM, Professor JK Pattanayak, Ex-Officiating Director and Deputy Director, and Professor Sandeep Mondal, Head of the Department of Management Studies & Industrial Engineering. Executives from Coal India Limited, faculty members, and students were also present.

Program Coordinators Dr. Shikha Singh and Dr. Preeti Roy highlighted the need for executive programs in today’s fast-changing and uncertain business world. They emphasized the importance of adapting to complex and volatile business environments, with a focus on feasibility and proactive actions to ensure survival and success. The program aims to strengthen industry-academic collaboration and equip participants with practical insights to achieve organizational excellence.

Professor Prem Vrat, Chairman of IIT-ISM, spoke about the institute’s long-standing relationship with CIL, stressing the importance of continuous learning for improving decision-making capabilities. He explained that this training would refresh participants’ knowledge and prepare them for technical and strategic decision-making in daily operations and long-term projects.

The program also addresses the challenges faced by industrial organizations, particularly with rising climate concerns and commitments to carbon reduction. Designed specifically for companies like Coal India Limited, the curriculum includes strategies for adapting to evolving regulations and technological advancements, providing executives with a comprehensive understanding of engineering and management aspects in industrial projects.
