Prashant Kishor On Fast Unto Death in Support of BPSC Aspirants’ Demands

Patna: Political strategist-turned-Jan Suraj Party founder, Prashant Kishor, has launched a fast unto death to support the protesting Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants, who are demanding the cancellation of last month’s preliminary exam and a re-conduct of the test.

Kishor, who recently joined the protesting candidates, has raised serious allegations of corruption related to the state government’s recruitment process. According to Kishor, “Thousands of crores of rupees have changed hands” in connection with filling vacant government positions through the BPSC examination.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Kishor reiterated his demands: the cancellation of the exam and the re-conduct of fresh tests. He also called for strict action against the corrupt officials involved in the process.

Earlier this week, Kishor issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Nitish Kumar-led state government, urging them to address the issue or face intense protests. “The future of our young students should be the top priority. We can play the game of politics later,” he stated.

On Monday, Kishor also criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his silence on the ongoing protests, questioning why the CM, who was reportedly in Delhi, had not responded to the plight of the protesting candidates. “Candidates are braving the cold, facing lathi charges and water cannons, yet the CM has not uttered a word about it,” he said.

Earlier in the week, a delegation of the protesters had met with Bihar’s Chief Secretary, Amrit Lal Meena, but claimed they received no clear assurances or timeline regarding their demands.

Tensions escalated on Tuesday when police used water cannons and lathi charges to disperse protesters attempting to breach barricades set up near the Chief Minister’s residence.
