Dhanbad: The Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has launched a five-day Executive Development Programme (EDP) titled “Project and Financial Management with MS Project Management & Simulation Software for Executives of SECL.” Sponsored by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), Bilaspur, the programme began on 6 January, and will run until 10 January.
The inaugural ceremony, held on Monday at MDI SECL Bilaspur, was attended by distinguished guests, including Dr. P. S. Mishra, CMD of SECL Bilaspur, Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT-ISM Dhanbad, Biranchi Das, Director (Personnel) SECL, and key faculty members from IIT (ISM), such as Professor Rajni Singh, Dean of Corporate Communications, and Professor J.K. Pattanayak, a Professor in the Department of Management Studies & Industrial Engineering.
The EDP is designed to enhance the skills of senior and mid-level management executives at SECL, with 32 participants, including General Managers, Chief Managers, Senior Managers, and Deputy Managers, enrolled in the programme.
The training will focus on equipping these executives with advanced knowledge in project and financial management, while also providing practical experience with project management and simulation software specifically tailored to the coal mining industry.
In her address, Prof. Rashmi Singh, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the programme, stressed the importance of effective project management tools in improving operational efficiency within the coal mining sector. “Exposure to state-of-the-art project management software and technology is critical for the efficient management of mining projects, which is essential for enhancing national energy security,” she stated.
The EDP includes 18 sessions led by experts on topics such as Strategic Financial Management by Professor J.K. Pattanayak, Leadership and Motivation by Professor Rajni Singh, and Risk Analysis and Management with Simulation Software by Professor Rashmi Singh.
Additionally, external experts will present on Agile Management in the Mining Industry and Sustainability Issues in Mining Projects.
