Dhanbad: As part of its centenary celebrations, the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad (IIT-ISM) launched two pioneering research projects, SEER and Bioscopy, in collaboration with UiT – The Arctic University of Norway and the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR).
The launch took place today at IIT(ISM)’s administrative block, marking a significant milestone in the institute’s global academic and research partnerships.
The event saw the virtual participation of Dr. Acquino Vimal, the Indian Ambassador to Norway, Professor Jan-Gunnar Winther, Pro-Rector of UiT, and Professor Manoj Dhar, Director of AcSIR. Key researchers, including Professor Dilip Prasad, Professor Krishna Agarwal, and others from both India and Norway, also attended.
Dr. Vimal highlighted the importance of advanced technologies to address global challenges, calling the Indo-Norwegian partnership a landmark moment for future education and research. Professor Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT-ISM, noted that the collaboration would strengthen the institute’s international presence and research capabilities.
The Bioscopy project, focused on advancing microscopy research, is funded by the Indo-Norwegian Cooperation Programme and supported by Norway’s Directorate for Higher Education and Skills and India’s University Grants Commission (UGC). Professor Krishna Agarwal from UiT leads the initiative, with Professor Biswajit Chowdhury from IIT(ISM) as Co-Principal Investigator.
The SEER project, led by Professor Dilip K. Prasad from UiT, aims to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Earth observation and climate monitoring. Both projects emphasize sustainability and innovation through global collaboration, with the potential to impact climate challenges and education models.
The launch underscores the transformative potential of international research partnerships in addressing global issues and enhancing academic development.
