Dhanbad: Professor Sukumar Mishra, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology-Indian School of Mines (IIT-ISM) Dhanbad, has been selected for the prestigious Distinguished Alumnus Award 2024 by the Centre for Alumni, Industry, and International Relations at NIT Rourkela. The award recognizes his outstanding contributions to academia and research in electrical engineering and academic leadership.
Professor Mishra, who earned his M.Tech and Ph.D. from NIT Rourkela, began his career as a lecturer at Sambalpur University and later served as a Reader at Biju Patnaik University of Technology. He assumed the role of Director at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad in May 2024 after holding key positions at IIT Delhi, including Dean of Research and External Engagement at the IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi Campus.
Known for his research in Power Systems, Renewable Energy, and Smart Grid technologies, Professor Mishra has received numerous accolades, including the Young Scientist Award (1999), INSA Medal for Young Scientists (2002), and the INAE Silver Jubilee Young Engineer Award (2012). He has also earned recognition for his leadership and innovation, such as the Innovation Leadership Award (2023).
In addition to his academic achievements, Professor Mishra has contributed to industrial consultancy projects with organizations like TATA Power and Microtek. He is also the founder of SILOV SOLUTIONS PRIVATE LIMITED, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.
His selection for the Distinguished Alumnus Award underscores his exceptional commitment to research, education, and industry collaboration, inspiring future generations of scholars and engineers.
