*Central Government Announces Salary and Pension Hike for MPs, Effective April 1, 2023*

New Delhi: The central government has issued a notification announcing an increase in the salaries, daily allowances, and pensions of Members of Parliament (MPs), effective from April 1, 2023.

According to the notification, the monthly salary for each MP has been raised from Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 1,24,000. Additionally, the daily allowance for MPs has been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500.

The pension for former MPs has also seen a boost, rising from Rs 25,000 to Rs 31,000 per month. Furthermore, former MPs with more than five years of service will receive an increased additional pension, going up from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 per month.

This is the first salary and allowance revision since April 2018, and the recent hike follows the guidelines established for such adjustments. Under these guidelines, MPs’ salaries and allowances are reviewed every five years, with the review factoring in inflation rates as per the Cost Inflation Index.

In addition to the salary hike, MPs currently receive a constituency allowance of Rs 70,000, an office allowance of Rs 60,000 per month, and a Rs 2,000 daily allowance during parliamentary sessions. These allowances will also be subject to increases as part of the latest revision.
