Dixon Technologies, one of India’s largest electronics manufacturing services companies, already operates plants in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Andhra Pradesh. The Chennai facility marks the company’s strategic expansion into southern India. Dixon manufactures devices for top global brands including Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Motorola.
The move comes at a time when India’s electronics manufacturing sector is witnessing exponential growth. According to industry data, manufacturing output has jumped from Rs 2.4 lakh crore in 2014 to Rs 9.8 lakh crore in 2024. Mobile phone manufacturing alone has reached Rs 4.4 lakh crore, with exports valued at Rs 1.5 lakh crore. Nearly 98% of mobile phones used in the country are now produced domestically, making smartphones India’s fourth-largest export item.
The new HP facility is expected to further strengthen Tamil Nadu’s position in the national electronics manufacturing ecosystem and contribute to the country’s broader ‘Make in India’ initiative.
