The spirit of celebration has gripped various corners of the country as traditional harvest festivals are being observed with great enthusiasm and cultural fervor. From the vibrant fields of Punjab to the festive streets of Kerala, people are ushering in a new agricultural cycle with prayers, rituals, and expressions of gratitude.
In the northern states, especially Punjab and Haryana, farmers are celebrating Vaisakhi, expressing thankfulness for a bountiful harvest and hoping for continued prosperity. The festival also marks the Sikh New Year and holds deep historical and spiritual significance in the region.
Meanwhile, in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, preparations are underway for Puthandu, the Tamil New Year, which will be observed tomorrow. Celebrated on the first day of the Tamil month Chitterai, the day signifies renewal and is marked with family gatherings, traditional dishes, and temple visits.
In the eastern states, Poila Boishakh in West Bengal and Bohag Bihu in Assam are bringing communities together to celebrate their respective New Years. Each festival, while regionally unique, shares the common themes of gratitude, hope, and new beginnings.
Keralites are celebrating Vishu, welcoming their new year with the iconic Vishukkani arrangement, fireworks, and feasting.
On this festive occasion, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended their warm wishes to the citizens. In her message, President Murmu emphasized that these vibrant festivals showcase India’s unity in diversity and pay tribute to the dedication of its farmers. She urged citizens to draw inspiration from these celebrations to work diligently for the nation’s progress.
Vice President Dhankhar noted that the festivals reflect the rich cultural heritage and agrarian ethos of India. He called upon the people to embrace the essence of renewal and unity that these festivals embody.
Prime Minister Modi, in a social media message, described the harvest festivals as a celebration of togetherness, gratitude, and abundance. He wished happiness and renewed hope for all, underlining the importance of these festivals in strengthening the social fabric of the nation.
