Firozabad: In a glaring case of police negligence, a sub-inspector in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district has been suspended after wrongly naming a sitting judge as an accused in a theft case and conducting a search at her residence.
Sub-Inspector Banwarilal, while executing a court-issued proclamation against an absconding theft accused, Rajkumar alias Pappu, shockingly mistook Chief Judicial Magistrate Nagma Khan—the very judge who had ordered the proceedings—for the proclaimed offender.
Instead of acting on the correct identity, Banwarilal submitted a report mislabeling the judicial order as a non-bailable warrant and falsely listing Judge Khan as the accused, claiming she was “untraceable.”
The blunder was exposed during a court hearing on March 23. A stunned Magistrate Khan called it a “grave and patent error,” criticizing the officer’s ignorance of the legal process and warning of broader threats to civil liberties and judicial integrity.
Following the court’s strong remarks and directives, Firozabad SSP Saurabh Dixit suspended the officer with immediate effect. A formal inquiry is underway, and the matter is scheduled for further hearing on April 26.
