Easter: A Festival of Hope, Faith and Victory Over Death

by Ravi Phillips

Sindri: Easter Sunday, a cornerstone of Christian faith symbolizing the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the triumph over death, was celebrated with great reverence and enthusiasm across Sindri and Dhanbad on April 20.

Christians believe that on the third day after His crucifixion, Jesus Christ rose from the dead and appeared to His disciples in Galilee, spreading a message of hope, renewal, and the promise of eternal life. This belief was at the heart of today’s celebrations.

In the early hours of the morning, hundreds of believers from Sindri and Dhanbad gathered at the Joraphatak Coalfield Christians’ Cemetery to pay homage to their departed loved ones. Carrying flowers, incense sticks, and candles, families visited graves in the belief that their deceased, too, share in Christ’s resurrection.

A solemn early morning graveyard service was held at the Dhanbad Coalfield Cemetery, led jointly by Christian priests from across the region. Rev. Soshan Barla delivered the Easter message, urging the faithful to lead lives of holiness and righteousness, promising resurrection for those who remain steadfast in their faith. He was assisted by Rev. Ajit Horo, Rev. Sushil Lang Bodhra, and Rev. Ajay Kumar. In Sindri, the cemetery service was conducted by Bro Philip Kandulna.

Following the cemetery services, Easter Sunday Church Services were held in local churches, including Sindri Union Church and St. Theresa’s Church. At Sindri Union Church, the service was led jointly by Rev. J.M. Tirkey (Retd) and Bro Philip Kandulna, while at St. Theresa’s Church, Father Nestor Soreng presided over the celebrations.

The day concluded with family gatherings, festive meals, and Easter egg hunts, reflecting the joy and spirit of the resurrection. Christian communities in Sindri and Dhanbad marked the occasion with deep faith, unity, and celebration, embodying the true essence of Easter.
