Bokaro: Second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive was carried out at Vedanta ESL Steel plant Telghariya, Chandankiyari, around 35 km of district headquarter of Bokaro on Friday. This drive was for ESL Steel employees and their family members; the first phase was only for the medical staffs conducted earlier, informed a Public Relation Official of ESL.
Around 118 employees were vaccinated on April 27 and 200 employees on April 28. Earlier, 394 employees got the vaccination on April 13. The vaccine is being given to ESL Steel employees free of cost.
ESL Steel had started its COVID-19 vaccine drive in the plant in coordination with the Jharkhand State Government, which was opened for all above 45 years of age from 1 April.
Speaking on the occasion, ESL Steel CEO, N. L. Vhatte said, “Vaccination is the key priority for all employees at this time when the COVID-19 virus is on a rampage across the country.”
“This is our first and only defence as of now. We have started a vaccination drive within the campus for all our fellow employees and their families. I have taken the lead and have got vaccinated. I would urge all employees to come forward and take the vaccine so that everyone is protected against the virus,” he added.
ESL Steel has always taken the lead in protecting its employees and their families from the COVID-19 virus through sanitisation drives and awareness camps for the community around the plant. It has also distributed masks and sanitiser around its operational areas apart from sanitising its plant premises from time to time.
ESL Steel has also launched medical oxygen supplies to the government following the requirement of the Union Ministry of Steel. The medical oxygen supplies will resume shortly.
