RNS: CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur celebrated National Technology Day with great enthuse. The Chief Guest of the function, Ujjal Chakraborty, Managing Director, Jamshedpur Continuous Annealing & Processing Co. Private Limited (JCAPCL), Dr Avanish K. Srivastava, Director, CSIR-NML (through online mode), Dr Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Chief Scientist, CSIR-NML, Dr Sital Kumar Pal, Chief Scientist, CSIR-NML were amongst the dignitaries present on the dais.
A capsule video on the CSIR-NML R&D focus and achievements was also displayed in the function. More than 70 students, including teachers from NTTF, Jamshedpur attended the function.
While welcoming the audience, Dr Srivastava highlighted, the celebration of National Technology Day was started by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1999 to honor Indian scientists, engineers and technologists, who worked for India’s scientific and technological advancement and ensured the successful conduct of Pokhran test in Rajasthan on May 11, 1998.
The theme for this year’s National Technology Day is “School to Start-ups-Igniting Young Minds to Innovate”.
Dr Sital Kumar Pal, Head, Research Planning & Business Development Division gave away the brief presentation on Technological achievement of CSIR-NML during 2022-23.
Dr Pal informed that four Technologies Licensed / commercialized over last one year. He said, CSIR-NML has a portfolio of more than 65 active technologies.
In his address, Chief Guest, recalled his long association & technological collaborations with CSIR-NML, while he was in Tata Steel in various capacities.
He appreciated the efforts of CSIR-NML’s sphere of activities covering the full materials cycle, i.e. from processing of minerals, catering to materials processing technologies and finally contributions in waste to wealth technologies.
Speaking on the occasion Chakraborty stressed upon CSIR-NML to support innovation and invention needs of the small scale industries. Since individual MSMEs may not be able to afford necessary investments for research & development activities, he stressed upon, that the group of MSMEs working in the similar areas should form a cluster and then collaborate with National labs for achieving technological growth at an affordable cost. He has expressed his full support in this direction for making the way forward.
The function ended with the vote of thanks offered by Aditya Mainak, Administrative Officer, CSIR-NML.
As a part of the celebrations, there was a display of posters related to various technologies developed by CSIR-NML, where some of them already commercialized.
