RNS I New Delhi: No Confidence Motion was defeated in the Lok Sabha brought by the opposition against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.
The no-confidence motion, submitted by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, was lost by voice vote after the opposition walked out of the House during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address.
This is not the first time the Modi government has encountered a no-confidence motion. The initial instance occurred in 2018, introduced by Srinivas Kesineni of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the House, extended gratitude to the citizens of India for consistently placing their trust in the government. He recalled the events of 2018 when the opposition brought forth a no-confidence motion and asserted that the subsequent general elections of 2019 were a clear expression of no confidence in them.
Modi emphasized that the NDA and the BJP secured more seats, indicating the public’s rejection of the opposition’s narrative. He even humorously remarked that, in a sense, the opposition’s motion had brought luck to the government.
PM conveyed confidence that both the NDA and the BJP would achieve unprecedented success in the upcoming 2024 elections, propelled by the support of the people.
Expressing disappointment at the opposition’s approach, Prime Minister Modi stated that the session would have been more productive if the opposition had participated wholeheartedly.
He lamented that instead of engaging in constructive discussions, the opposition prioritized political manoeuvring over important legislation concerning various sections of society.
He criticized the opposition’s disregard for bills related to fishermen, data, marginalized communities, and tribal welfare, deeming it a betrayal of the citizens’ expectations. The Prime Minister accused the opposition of prioritizing party interests over national welfare, thus disappointing the public’s trust.
Furthermore, the PM highlighted the current era as one of transformation and progress, stressing the importance of harnessing the nation’s potential to achieve developmental goals.
He underlined the responsibilities of this era and emphasized that the nation’s present decisions would reverberate for generations. The Prime Minister urged unity and dedication toward realizing the aspirations of the citizens and advancing the country’s growth trajectory.
As the no-confidence motion stands defeated, the NDA government solidifies its position in the Lok Sabha, navigating the political landscape with renewed vigour and a strong message of progress and stability.
