RNS: In a significant milestone, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) today successfully performed a key manoeuvre of its solar mission, Aditya-L1.
The Trans-Lagrangian Point 1 Insertion manoeuvre, executed flawlessly by ISRO, marks the commencement of a remarkable journey spanning approximately 110 days for the spacecraft, ultimately leading it to the enigmatic L1 Lagrange point. The L1 Lagrange point, situated in a delicate gravitational equilibrium between Earth and the Sun, is the chosen destination for Aditya-L1.
In a statement released on ‘X’, ISRO declared, “The spacecraft is now on a trajectory that will take it to the Sun-Earth L1 point. It will be injected into an orbit around L1 through a manoeuvre after about 110 days.”
Aditya-L1 stands as a pioneering Indian space-based observatory, destined to scrutinize the Sun’s intricacies from a unique halo orbit encircling the first Sun-Earth Lagrangian point, situated approximately 1.5 million kilometers away from our planet. With the Sun being a colossal sphere of gaseous matter, Aditya-L1’s primary mission objective is to delve into the mysteries of the Sun’s outer atmosphere.
ISRO underscores the exceptional advantage of placing a spacecraft in the halo orbit around the L1 point, emphasizing the continuous, unobstructed observations of the Sun it provides.
This unimpeded view of the Sun will eliminate any disruptions caused by occultations or eclipses, enabling Aditya-L1 to capture real-time data on solar activities and their consequential impact on space weather.
The successful execution of this manoeuvre signals the dawn of a new era in India’s space exploration endeavours, as Aditya-L1 prepares to unlock the secrets of the Sun’s outer realms and enrich our understanding of celestial phenomena.
ISRO’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of space research remains unwavering as the Aditya-L1 mission embarks on its remarkable journey to the heart of our solar system.
