New Delhi: At least seven newborns lost their lives in a devastating fire that erupted at a children’s hospital in Delhi late Saturday night, according to media reports.
The Delhi Fire Services received an emergency call about the blaze at 11:32 PM at a baby care center located in the Vivek Vihar area of East Delhi. In response, 16 fire tenders were dispatched to the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Officials reported that 12 newborns were successfully rescued from the first floor of the building, but tragically, seven succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital. Five other children are currently undergoing treatment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the incident on social media. In a post on X, he stated, “The fire tragedy at a hospital in Delhi is heart-rending. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this incredibly difficult time. I pray that those injured recover at the earliest.”
