Lucknow: While there is a festive atmosphere among the general public in Uttar Pradesh to celebrate Independence Day on August 15, intelligence inputs suggest that terrorists are planning major incidents in the state for the occasion. To counter this, the UP Police have tightened security measures to prevent any disruption or attacks during the celebrations. Director General of Police Prashant Kumar has instructed his subordinates to closely monitor activities of terrorists and other organizations at the borders of neighboring states and keep a watch on people arriving from outside. Special vigilance will be maintained on rail, road, and air transportation.
The DGP has directed that security personnel brief themselves about their duties and personally conduct foot patrols in the field. For Independence Day events like the Tiranga Yatra, Prabhat Pheri, tableaux, and other major programs, he has emphasized stringent security and proper traffic management by deploying sufficient police force. He has also mandated anti-sabotage checks before major events. Ensuring special security arrangements at entry and exit points of event locations is also a key directive.
Effective checking and surveillance through CCTV cameras and drones will be conducted at railway stations, metro stations, bus terminals, malls, markets, hotels, dharamshalas, guest houses, religious, and other major sites. Prashant Kumar has stressed the importance of closely monitoring suspects and conducting thorough checks at entry points to the state and across all districts. Vigilance over drone and other unmanned aerial vehicles’ flights is also crucial. Adequate security and traffic management around schools and colleges will be ensured. The DGP has urged activating the intelligence network to keep a watchful eye on anti-national and anti-social activities. Additional police force and UP 112 PRV will be stationed at sensitive locations. Continuous monitoring of social media and immediate action against those spreading rumors have also been instructed.
