Kanpur: The Sikh community is expressing deep hurt and anger over a recent anti-religious statement made by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, during a visit to the United States. In response, hundreds gathered for a significant protest march in Kanpur to voice their dissent.
The march commenced at Gurdwara Kirtangarh Gumti No. 5 and concluded at Sant Nagar Gurudwara, led by prominent community leaders including Simranjit Singh, Gurwinder Singh Vicky, Amarjit Singh Pammi, Neetu Singh, and Ajit Singh Chhabra. Participants raised slogans such as “Rahul Gandhi, Shame on you” and “Congress government, stop killing Sikhs,” resonating throughout the Gumti area.
During the protest, Simranjit Singh, co-convener of the BJP Minority Front, along with other leaders, condemned Gandhi’s remarks. Amarjit Singh Pammi, President of the Sikh Punjabi Welfare Society, and other community leaders emphasized that any insult to Sikhism and its traditions would not be tolerated. They pledged to hold accountable individuals like Gandhi who make such statements.
The gathering also included prominent Sikh figures and social workers, such as Raminder Singh Rinku, Gurjinder Singh, and Kamaldeep Singh, who stood in solidarity with the cause.
The protests escalated yesterday with the burning of an effigy of Rahul Gandhi as a symbolic gesture of the community’s outrage against his remarks. The Sikh community is united in its demand for accountability and respect for their beliefs.
