IIT-ISM Dhanbad Hosts Plantation Drive During National Conference on Earth Sciences

Dhanbad: IIT-ISM Dhanbad conducted a tree plantation drive as part of its three-day National Conference on Emerging Trends in Earth Science: Geohazards and Resource Management. Over 100 saplings of various species, including Arjun, Palash, Sal, Semal, Karanj, Teak, and Kaner, were planted in the forest area near the Department of Applied Geophysics to enhance the campus’s green cover.

The initiative, organized under the ongoing EK Ped Maa Ke Naam program, was led by Professor Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM). He was joined by several prominent figures, including Professor Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director; Professor A.R. Dixit, Dean (Infrastructure); Professor Sanjit Kumar Pal, Head of the Department of Applied Geophysics; Prabodh Pandey, Registrar; and faculty members from the department.

This plantation drive is part of the broader Geoconfluence’24 event, which features technical workshops, student competitions, and expert sessions focused on contemporary issues in earth sciences, geohazard management, and resource conservation.

Dhiraj Kumar, Horticulture Officer at the Institute, emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, “This initiative calls on every citizen to plant a tree in honor of their mother, symbolizing gratitude and the nurturing bond between nature and humanity.” He also noted that plantation drives are being conducted throughout the campus and in surrounding areas.
