Gaya: Police have arrested Kamlesh Rawani alias Kamlesh Ram, in Jol Bigha village, located in the Khijrasarai police station area, according to Gaya’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashish Bharati. The arrest took place on Saturday, with Rawani being a wanted Naxalite carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh.
SSP Bharati stated during a press conference that Rawani was being sought in connection with multiple serious criminal cases and has a history of incarceration dating back to 2008. Notably, in 2019, he was implicated in a significant crime alongside fellow Naxalites. While five of his accomplices were apprehended during that incident, Rawani managed to evade capture and had been on the run since.
Originally from Ghosi in Jehanabad, Rawani faces numerous charges in Gaya, Jehanabad, and Nalanda districts. The police were actively searching for him in various Naxalite-related cases.
SSP Bharati revealed that intelligence reports indicated Rawani’s presence near Jol Bigha village, leading to his arrest with the assistance of the district police and the Special Task Force (STF). He emphasized that ongoing operations against notorious criminals and Naxalites will continue as part of the police’s commitment to enhancing public safety.
