Vedanta ESL Steel Launches Initiatives for ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ Campaign; planted saplings

Bokaro: Vedanta ESL Steel Limited has actively participated in the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign, launched by the Government of India to mark the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The campaign began on September 17, 2024, focusing on the theme ‘Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskar Swachhata,’ highlighting the significance of cleanliness and community involvement in fostering a sustainable and healthy environment.

In alignment with this initiative, Vedanta ESL employees engaged in a Cleanliness and Plantation Drive at the Primary School in Alkusha, involving around 50 volunteers. The event aimed to promote participation among students, teachers, and community members in enhancing the school’s environment. The overarching goal was to raise environmental awareness, improve hygiene standards, and cultivate a sense of civic responsibility beneficial to both the school and the surrounding community.

During the event, attendees, including Chief Guest Philmoon Bilung (District Development Magistrate, NABARD), Rohit Rajak (Mukhiya, Alkusa Panchayat) and Shyamlee Minz (CHRO, ESL Steel Limited), took a Swachhta oath, committing to cleanliness and environmental stewardship. The occasion concluded with the planting of over 100 saplings under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative.

In addition to activities at the school, Vedanta ESL employees participated in a Swachhta Slogan, Quiz & Poster campaign, along with a unique community initiative known as “Plalking,” where participants pick up litter while walking. This innovative approach combines exercise with environmental responsibility and has gained popularity in over 100 countries.

Kunal Daripa, Head of CSR at Vedanta ESL, expressed pride in the company’s commitment to cleanliness, stating, “We at Vedanta ESL strongly believe in cleanliness. Our previous initiatives to foster this practice among our employees are now yielding positive results. Cleanliness has become ingrained in Vedanta ESL’s culture, and we take great pride in that.”

The Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign continues to inspire communities across India, and Vedanta ESL’s initiatives reflect a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and community welfare.
