IIT-ISM Hosts Three-Day Workshop on Photonic Sensors for Biosensing Applications

Dhanbad: A three-day workshop focused on photonic sensors for biosensing applications commenced today at IIT (ISM), bringing together experts from technical institutes and research laboratories across the country. Running from October 17 to 19, the workshop aims to explore various applications of photonic technology, including environmental monitoring and healthcare solutions.

During the inaugural session held at the Conference Hall of the Executive Development Centre (EDC), participants were introduced to a range of topics, including integrated optical biosensors and waveflex biosensors. Attendees also had the opportunity to observe demonstrations from the institute’s Fiber Optic Sensor Lab, showcasing various types of fiber cables and optical fiber handling techniques.

Professor MK Singh, Dean (Academic), served as the Chief Guest and emphasized the importance of transforming information into knowledge through continuous effort. He encouraged participants to consider the potential of photonics in addressing healthcare issues, specifically the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs).

Dr. Srinivas Talabattula, Professor at IISc Bangalore and Guest of Honor, outlined a structured approach to converting information into knowledge. He stressed the significance of self-learning and suggested that participants engage in workshops, conferences, and journal publications as essential steps in this process. He also recommended establishing relevant societies at the institute level, highlighting that a student chapter of the Society of Photonics and Optics could be beneficial.

Professor Ravi Kumar Gangwar, Head of the Department of Electronics Engineering, provided insights into the history and infrastructure of the department, along with the various courses offered.

Meanwhile, Professor Sanjeev Kumar Raghuwanshi, Associate Professor and program coordinator, delivered the welcome address and outlined the workshop’s itinerary.

The workshop underscores IIT-ISM’s commitment to advancing research and development in photonics and its applications in biosensing.
