Jharkhand Raj Urdu Shikshak Sangh Threatens Protest Over Holiday Schedule

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Raj Urdu Shikshak Sangh has raised a strong protest against the state government’s handling of Urdu schools, accusing it of discriminatory treatment in the holiday schedules for the coming years. Union General Secretary Amin Ahmed voiced his sharp criticism, highlighting serious concerns over the reduced holidays for Urdu schools compared to others.

In a detailed statement, Ahmed pointed out that the 2024 holiday list allotted nine fewer holidays to Urdu schools than their counterparts. Additionally, the 2025 schedule was criticized for including eight Fridays—days when Urdu schools remain closed. “This is unacceptable,” Ahmed said, expressing frustration over the discrepancies. He announced that the union would not accept these schedules and would launch a statewide movement to demand amendments if necessary.

The protest gathered momentum over the weekend as Urdu teachers from various districts of Jharkhand came together for a major gathering at Pump House Picnic Spot, Chakradharpur. The event was organized by the Jharkhand State Urdu Teachers’ Union, West Singhbhum District Unit, with Ahmed at the helm. It served as a platform for discussing not only the holiday issues but also the welfare of teachers across the state.

Further addressing concerns, Ahmed raised the issue of delayed promotions for Grade 4 employees in West Singhbhum and called for the immediate implementation of a 10% reservation in promotions for the 1994 batch of Urdu teachers. He also acknowledged the promise made by Education Minister Ramdas Soren to reopen closed schools but stressed the urgent need to fill vacant positions for Urdu teachers and revise the holiday schedule.

The event also marked the introduction and felicitation of new office-bearers of the West Singhbhum district unit. A cultural program featuring balloon art and music competitions added a celebratory atmosphere to the gathering.

In a united front, union members pledged to continue opposing the unified holiday schedule. They committed to approaching the Deputy Commissioner and District Education Officer to garner support for their cause. The gathering saw prominent union members from across the state, all reiterating their dedication to advocating for the rights and welfare of Urdu teachers in Jharkhand.
