Tremors felt in Jammu and Kashmir, Magnitude 5.3 earthquake hits Pakistan

New Delhi/Jammu: Tremors were felt across parts of northern India, including Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, after a 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck Pakistan on Saturday around 1:00 PM IST. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the quake’s epicentre was located approximately 60 kilometres northwest of Rawalpindi, at a depth of 10 kilometres.

The seismic activity caused noticeable tremors in several Indian regions, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, triggering brief panic among residents. However, no reports of damage or casualties have emerged from either side of the border.

The NCS confirmed the quake via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “EQ of M: 5.3, On: 12/04/2025 13:00:55 IST, Lat: 33.70 N, Long: 72.43 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Pakistan.”

Reports from Pakistan indicated that the tremors were felt across several areas in Punjab, including Attock and Chakwal, and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces such as Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, and Lower Dir, according to Geo News.

Authorities in both India and Pakistan are continuing to monitor the situation. As of now, there have been no confirmed casualties or significant structural damage.
